Pet Peeves: pt. 1
I was asked to do an interview by a first year journalism student regarding a student fee mix-up with the school and our program.
As a journalism student myself, and also an “all-around nice person” (yes, I’m really soaking up the glory here), I agreed to it.
Although the questions were fairly amateur (which is fine because it’s a complicated issue), I decided to explain everything in at least three paragraphs. Let’s say my whole answer was around 500-700 words about the whole ordeal.
After taking all that time to answer the question, I didn’t get a “thank you.” There was no reply.
That peeved me just a bit. It’s common courtesy to thank someone after getting an interview because he/she is taking time off his/her day just to speak with you.
I don’t know. I just thought this was common sense.
So young writers/journalists… If you ever need to interview someone, always thank them right after for taking the time.
